A picture packs a punch

As a former journalist and now a PR consultant, you could say words are my ‘thing’. Each week, we hammer out thousands of carefully chosen words in one form or another. Notwithstanding our great affection for the expansiveness of the English language, however, we know that pictures beat words hands down every time.

An image that speaks for itself is priceless. That’s why our profession goes to such lengths to secure those attention-grabbing photos that the picture desks will love.

Those of us working on The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal were brimming with delight today when a large photo of Celebrity Big Brother winner Paddy Doherty, donning a pink tutu, graced this morning’s papers.

The former bare-knuckle boxer and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star posed for the camera wearing Genesis’ eye-catching pink skirt, as he joined the fight against breast cancer and promoted its 15th anniversary Crystal Ball, which takes place on 29 October.

The fact that Paddy turned to the ‘pink side’ during Breast Cancer Awareness Month is itself a fantastic achievement for Genesis. More significantly, the picture of Paddy conveys Genesis’ mission to fight breast cancer with genuine punch (excuse the pun).
