This week, Spinningfields Ice Rink was taken over by a very special group of skaters, who took to the ice wearing some rather unusual skating gear.

A bevy of 10 beautiful brides glided onto the rink to perform a show-stopping flashmob routine to Bruno Mars’ catchy track, Marry You. Like every great flashmob, it had an eye-catching routine, a toe-tapping song and that all-important element of surprise. The other skaters on the rink stopped and stared before whipping out their iPhones and filming the whole scene, open-mouthed, while passers-by jostled their way to the edge of the rink to get a view of the action, many of them tweeting using #BellesOnIce.

It was all to promote our client, The National Wedding Show, which is coming to Manchester for the first time in March.

The show will let brides-to-be meet hundreds of suppliers under one roof so that they can plan their weddings with ease.

As it’s the first time the show will be in the city, The National Wedding Show team asked us to get our creative caps on and come up with an idea that would get Manchester talking.

We knew we needed something visual to launch the event to the city’s brides-to-be and decided that a flashmob was the way to go. After sourcing everything from dancers to dresses and doing plenty of dry runs, all that was left was to turn up and enjoy the evening.  Thankfully, the rain held off just long enough for the ‘brides’ to do the do and it all went off without a hitch.

Here’s how the Manchester Evening News saw it. You can also check out the video on YouTube and don’t forget to tweet us – just remember the #BellesOnIce hashtag!
