Royal baby front pages

Just a year on from London 2012, the world’s media is once again shining a spotlight on our capital city as it welcomes a new baby Prince into its arms.

As the crowds continue to gather outside St Mary’s Hospital to sneak a peek of Kate and Wills’ one-day-old son, the British press have surpassed themselves in the battle for the best headline.

The Sun has gone so far as to rename the paper ‘The Son’ in honour of the tiny tot – apparently the first and only time it has, or will ever change its name. The Daily Mail has also come up trumps with ‘Oh boy! One’s a Grandpa’ while i has led with the simple, yet effective header, ‘Born to rule’.

The other interesting point from a PR perspective is the fact that the news was broken via Twitter by @ClarenceHouse, at the same time that the announcement was made to the world’s press. Predictably, the news spread like wildfire via social media, meaning traditional newspapers were forced to run the story a whole day later – a lifetime by today’s standards. Making up for the ‘lull’ with collectable special editions, the print media is clearly set to get a much-needed sales boost today.

So, we’ve seen the headlines for the little Prince, but what do you think the best headline would have been if the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a Princess? Answers on a postcard!
