Marketing sounds like a pretty glamorous career choice, right? All Don Drapers and sexy advertising slogans, working hard and playing harder. The truth is, while it can switch on the glamour from time to time, a career in a marketing agency is more likely to see you spending a lot of hours in front of a computer screen, executing painstakingly precise multi-channel strategies.
So, perhaps not as sexy as TV makes it seem. But don’t be put off! Marketing is a really exciting career choice and I’m proud to say that, at Peppermint, we have a fabulous range of clients all receiving different areas of our expertise, which makes for a very interesting career.
We’re currently looking for an account executive to work in our busy media and content team, as well as a front end web developer as part of our thriving digital studio. If you’re thinking of applying for either role, then I have a few words of wisdom about what to expect from Peppermint Soda.
- Every day is different
OK, it’s a bit of a cliché, but we genuinely do have a very varied workload here at Peppermint. With clients in industries ranging from property to financial services, discount retailers to hair transplant surgeons, you’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at plenty of different things. Add to that our wide range of services (PR, content marketing, design, web build, branding, social… I could go on!) and you get a really interesting day job.
- We love personality
As you can probably see from our own branding, we like people and things with a personality. A quirky covering letter can really help you stand out from the crowd. At interview, we’re keen to know about you and what you’re like to work with just a much as we want to understand your skills. At no time is this more important than on a trial session – we’ll usually ask a shortlist to come in, in turn, and spend a day or half day with the relevant team. We want to test your work, but also see how you’d fit in. So get involved!
- It can get busy – very busy
We juggle a lot of clients here, like any marketing agency. The senior team is always keeping an eye on capacity, but there are times when everyone just needs to muck in to get the job done. Be prepared to jump from speaking to a journalist about a breast cancer survivor story, straight into a social planner for a FinTech business, and then onto a blog about issues impacting recruitment in the engineering industry.
- Proactivity is key
We’re a team of self-starters who, when they see a job needs doing, get on and do it. That’s what makes us quick, efficient and proactive in the eyes of our clients. We’re looking for people who will go the extra mile for their clients and their colleagues, looking for opportunities to help wherever possible.
- Finally – there’s no substitute for quality
We pride ourselves on being of the highest quality in everything we do – and we expect everyone in our team to be the same. Whether it’s a press release or a logo design concept, we’re always looking for your best work. So check, check and check again for spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Make sure your links are correct. Double check the brand colours. Don’t make silly mistakes!
