War on ‘shell-suited’ urchins

vicky_pollard_398833aThis is one of the most hilarious news stories I’ve read in a long time.  Activities Abroad sent out an email to its database claiming that if they booked a holiday with them they were unlikely to encounter people with the names Britney, Kylie-Lianne, Bianca, Tiffany, Dazza, Chardonnay, Chantelle, Candice, Courtney, and Shannon.  ‘Chav-free’ holidays for all, they claimed, and when the complaints started rolling in, they didn’t bat an eyelid, holding their ‘middle-class’ ground.

What an absolutely amazing (if unintentional) PR stunt.  Undoubtedly the managing director Alistair McLean’s claims to be standing up for the middle classes against ‘shell-suited urchins’ comes across as somewhat ridiculous to those with a bit more of an open mind. However, the amount of press coverage he’s received has been phenomenal.  He also declared that he’s not particularly (read, at all) bothered if the people he’s offended don’t book with his company.  He’ll certainly be attracting the “right” kind of people now.  Mission accomplished Alistair, well done.
