‘Is social media a fad? Or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?’ – a question I came across in an amazing video the other day.

First came generations X and Y, but now I feel I’m truly generation web 2.0. Fully aware that just one post has the power to reverberate around the world in a loud and possibly reputation-tarnishing fashion, I’m already convinced by social media. This video made me even more of a believer though, and put into perspective how crucial it is to use social media effectively.

If we look at different media channels and calculate how many years it has taken them to reach 50 million users, there’s a clear winner. It took the radio 38 years, television 13 years and the internet just four. Staggering!

A social media strategy has become a critical factor in the success or failure of any business. We don’t have a choice on whether we use social media; the question is how well we use it. Anyway, that’s enough from me – take a look for yourself:
